OPTIONS

The OPTIONS Program at Brehm is designed for students with complex learning disabilities, attention disorders and/or executive functioning deficits who have graduated from high school, deferred graduation or earned their GED. OPTIONS is a transitional program for students who need to further develop academic, employment, social and/or independent living skills.

The OPTIONS Program assists students in acquiring and implementing self-advocacy, self-management and independent living skills to reach academic, employment and personal goals.

  • Using experience and expertise gained as an outgrowth of the Brehm Preparatory School, and created in response to parent and student requests through Strategic Planning, the OPTIONS Program provides curriculum instruction that prepares students for their next steps.
  • Starting second semester, students may opt for the community college curriculum, receiving instruction and assistance in all areas of preparing for and participating in for-credit college classes.
  • Students participate in career-focused internships beginning in their second semester. OPTIONS offers classes specifically designed to prepare our students for employment. The Program partners with over 50 businesses in the community to offer students hands-on experiences, providing opportunities for career exploration, instruction, assessment and reflection.
  • Students may choose to pursue a Certificate of Completion in one of eight areas of competitive employment. These two-year programs focus on assisting students in acquiring and implementing the academic and job specific competencies needed for competitive employment.
  • Instruction provided through the Independent Living component encompasses the many facets and nuances of life for young adults, ranging from activities of daily living, fiscal responsibility, leisure planning, meal planning, shopping and preparation, all areas of self-management, social skills implementation and relationship management. Students live in apartments that are supervised by highly skilled OPTIONS staff, available to offer instruction, assistance and encouragement.

We hope that you will contact us to learn more about how students gain independence through participation in The OPTIONS Program at Brehm.
